About
Taslima Begum is Senior Lecturer teaching on the BA (Hons) Interactive Media and MA Design by Practice programmes at the Newport School of Art, Media & Design.
Teaching:
Taslima's inter-disciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching focuses around Design and Technology both Practice and Theory and Cultural studies. It also spans Interaction design process, Audio-Visual-augmented environments, Interface Design, Cultural and Postcolonial theory in relation to technology, Website Design, 3d Animation, Games Design, Professional practice: E-portfolios, Design Documentation Methods, and Research Skills. She also teaches software proficiency in a wide variety of programs such as Flash, Director, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Poser, Audacity and Premiere.
Research Interests:
Initiated in 2004, Taslima is currently pursuing her primary research focus – a Postcolonial investigation into the cultural construction of design solutions in high-end technological products - as a topic of doctoral research. The research considers if and how products and systems produced in the West embody culturally hegemonic assumptions. By reinterpreting technological formations in light of research emerging from post-colonial studies, she is attempting to understand how product design relies particularly upon western hegemonic aesthetic and deep cultural archetypes.
